November 1 - 10, 2017 at TD Bank
Everyone deserves a place to call home. That’s what Help USA believes. The nonprofit’s mission is to provide the housing and supportive services necessary to help the homeless and others in need to become and remain self-reliant. In a recent project with the Philadelphia Housing Authority, Help USA seeks to convert the Spring Garden School at 12th and Ogden streets into housing for homeless Philadelphia Veterans. Constructed in 1927 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, the Spring Garden School will be HELP USA’s fifth project in Philadelphia. A 99-year ground lease between PHA and HELP USA will include 37 units of affordable housing for low-income seniors. A full 12 of the units will be reserved for homeless veterans.
On Wednesday, November 1st through Friday, November 10th we came together with the community at select Philadelphia Store locations to collect donations for Help USA. On the final day a special ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the new facility with veterans, elected officials, and other special guests. The community showed the importance of supporting veterans who sacrifice everything for our freedom. Thanks to local support and a grant from the TD Charitable Foundation, together we raised a total of $5,673.98. Now Help USA can enhance their new facility supporting veterans and seniors.
