The Pawtucket Soup Kitchen is a hunger relief organization primarily serving the communities of Pawtucket, Providence and Central Falls, LMI communities in RI. Need is great in this area with approximately 22% of the population living below the national poverty level. The Pawtucket Soup Kitchen, located in the basement of St. Joseph’s Church, is all-inclusive and open to anyone in need, and strives to serve 80,000 healthy meals annually in the community.
On Thursday, July 13th through Wednesday, July 19th, we came together with the community to collect donations at our Pawtucket and East Providence stores. We presented a check to the Executive Director of the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen, Adrienne Marchetti, for $5123.00. In addition, 15 bags of groceries were donated by employees and Customers. Marchetti was brought to tears.
She explained, “Often times people think to donate during the Holidays, but we are here serving our clients 6 days a week, all year long. I have seen new faces in here over the past few weeks and I started to worry.” She went on to say, “This is a miracle! I can now feed people through August.”
